Cantilever Bridge
If a tooth is missing a cantilever bridge can be one of the solutions to replace it, like all bridges, the artificial tooth in a cantilever bridge uses the support of neighbouring teeth to stay in place, but unlike the traditional bridges, a cantilever bridge attaches to teeth on only once side of the space. A Cantilever Bridge can be made of porcelain, gold or porcelain fused to metal. The Bridge is custom made for you in a dental laboratory, so it may take two or more appointments to complete your bridge.
On your first visit, we will numb the area to make you comfortable, we may also use a rubber dam to protect your mouth while we work. We remove any decay and use the handpiece to shape the teeth that will support the bridge, then we will take the impression of your teeth, the label uses the impression to make a model of your mouth. They will use the model to create the bridge that precisely fits on your tooth and bite. In the meantime, we often place a temporary bridge to give you some comfort while you wait for the final bridge to be made. On your next visit we remove the temporary and try in your new bridge, we will check the fit and the bite, when everything looks good we bond or cement the bridge in place.
Cantilever bridges have several advantages:
When you need to replace a missing tooth, a cantilever bridge can be a functional good looking solution.
